The Twelve Gates Of The Holy
City
When
I was a teenager I remember being brought up in the Church of Christ and would
be asked to sing at funerals. We would sing songs like, 'I've got a mansion
just over the hill top in that bright land where we'll never grow old and
someday yonder I will nevermore wonder, but walk the streets that are paved
with gold.' We would sing, 'Looking For a City', 'When the Roll is Called up
Yonder" and others.
It
wasn't until I was around forty five years old that I bothered to study the
book of Revelation, Chapter 21 and 22 and the Lord begin to open my eyes to the
facts of those two chapters. Oh, I had read them many times and had talk about
the streets of Gold that are in the Holy City of God. I had envisioned along
with the rest of the body of Christ that marvelous City that was prepared for
the saints of God.
That was until,
sometime around 1985, that one of my Christians friends came to me and said,
"David, you have got to listen to these tapes by Kelley Varner,
(http://www.kelleyvarner.org/ ), concerning the Twelve Gates of The Holy
City!"
I
finally sit down one evening and begin a journey that would absolutely change
my whole concept of the Word of God and especially the Old Testament. I had
been taught that the Old Testament had passed away and wasn't much use to us
except as a history book of the beginning of things.
This
unavailing of the true meaning of Revelation 21 &22 has changed my life. As
a result, I have endeavored to set down my understanding of this passage in the
hopes that as you read and meditate on the truths contain herein, you, also,
will be changed. My prayer is that as you read this you will do so with an open
mind and when you do see that the scripture plainly disputes what man has told
you, that you will accept the scriptures.
